After the Muslims conquered Mecca, the news of the conquest reached the Arab tribes, and they were astonished by the empowerment of Islam on the land, so the elders of the Thaqif and Hawazin tribes gathered and decided to install a leader for them called Malik bin Auf al-Nudri to assign him the task of mobilizing the army and mobilizing people to fight the Muslims and invade them in their stronghold. The Holy City of Makkah, and the main reason behind this meeting and this intention was the fear of these tribes from the incoming expansion of Islam to them. Malik bin Auf was able to mobilize nearly thirty thousand fighters to go out with their women, money and livestock so that this would motivate them to fight and not flee, and one of their sheikhs, called Duraid bin al-Sammah, indicated that their army lay in the trees in Wadi Hanin in order to surprise the Muslims, and Malik liked it. The commander of the infidels' army adopted this opinion, as this was the main reason in the story of the battle of Hunayn.
